Brighton's birthday boys night out

For Brighton 10th birthday we went to Dennys and to the Duttons show. The boys had a really good time, and especially liked the comedian, Julio.
 
Justin thought they were a lot to handle until he saw what Audra dealt with for Adaira's party :-)
 

 
What can I say about you at 10 years old Brighton? You are insanely smart, inquisitive, curious, loving, stubborn, picky, and sensitive. You never, I mean NEVER, leave the car in the morning without giving me a kiss and telling me goodbye and that you love me. You had a hard time making friends until you got into CATS last year, and since then you found other kids just like you and two of them are also LDS. You understand and take to heart our talks about choosing good friends. You fight and argue with us all the time Brighton (like, WAY TOO MUCH) but in your heart you have a desire to be good and choose the right. Your three best friends are Adam, Sherwin and Brock. You hated running club, baseball, soccer, and pretty much any other sport, but you tolerate swimming. You devour books. We had to get you a Kindle because we couldn't afford your book habit and it was too hard to keep track of the 8-10 books at a time you wanted from the library. It's like the end of the world when you misplace your Kindle! With it you typically read at least an hour to two hours every night. You ask me the most random questions about science and life that just make my head hurt sometimes (and I love science). I refer to you as the absent minded professor a lot, because you always have so many things running through your head that you are always forgetting what you are supposed to be doing. 
You and Adaira are either best friends or mortal enemies. You hate or love her, multiple times a day. 

You love Daisy all the time and she adores you. Most of the time you are pretty good to Dale too, but he and Daisy have been teaming up lately driving you crazy with the messes they have been making in your room getting into your stuff. 
You say when you grow up you want to be a scientist or some kind of doctor. I hope your voracious appetite for learning sticks with you and you get there! You are one unique and special kid Brighton. You are going to be capable of so many amazing things, and I hope one thing you can start considering is how much help your wealth of knowledge and learning can be your to your Heavenly Father and his work as well. You are trying to gain a testimony and sometimes you tell us you worry because you just don't know if the church is true or not. We are just so glad you are trying to find that answer Brighton, and we have conversations with you about it often. I know one day you will get those answers if you keep praying for them. We love you Brighton, and like you always say when you change our screensaver, "Brighton is awesome!!!"

Daisy's baptism day

Today Daisy was baptized by her big brother Brighton. My mom and Adaira got to be the witnesses, grandma Joanna gave the talk on the Holy Ghost, and Dale gave the closing prayer (after Dad has to rush during the closing song to help him put back on his tie and button up his shirt. Brighton was the pianist except for Adaira who played "When I am Baptized" for a special musical number. (A set of twins from another family was also baptized and their kids sang and played the violin). Here is what she has to say about her special day: I felt happy and felt the Holy Ghost. The water was a little cold. At first I was nervous but now I'm happy. I was excited to be baptized and I want to be a kind member of the church.  I may just be opening up myself to a bunch of judgment and criticisms with this post here but it is what it is. I've been thinking a lot about motherhood for the past few months. Most of my thinking stems from guilt I feel about my lack of mothering skills, in that I just don't seem to live for being a mom like so many other women I know. Don't get me wrong, I love my kids! But I also love my alone time, the time I have to work part time with other adults, and the time when all the kids are safely tucked in bed. Growing up I didn't dream about being a mom. I didn't like to babysit AT ALL! When it came time to start our family it really wasn't out of a longing desire to be parents (though I was excited for the new chapter in our lives), it was more about timing and that we'd been married a couple years and it just seemed like it was time to start a family.
