Dale

Dale causes so much trouble and chaos in our home, yet at the same time he is so much fun to watch with all the new little quirks he picks up. He's always pulling off some new expression or silly behavior. It's really entertaining to see the things he picks up from his siblings and the things that are truly uniquely Dale.

Brighton has been writing in his journal every night for the past few weeks. We didn't even encourage this, he just started doing it on his own (another reason Brighton is amazing...). Since the lights in his room are off, Brighton will lay down on his belly in his doorway and write in his journal. Dale walked around the corner the other day and saw Brighton's journal and pencil on the floor, so he did a little circle and laid down on his belly and started "writing" in Brighton's journal.


None of my other kids have ever had any attachment to their blankets. Dale is attached to BOTH of his blankets and will routinely walk around the house dragging them until he finds a nice place to lay and cuddle with them (while sucking his trusty fingers, of course). It certainly doesn't matter if it's right on the kitchen floor (which occurs often) as long as he is in the same room as I am. This behavior definitely comes in handy when we want Dale to just cuddle with us, which isn't something he has ever wanted to do until just a few months ago. As strange as it seems compared to my other kids, it is very difficult to get Dale to show affection. He just stares at us sometimes when we ask for hugs or kisses, though sometimes on rare occasions he will actually oblige. Usually when I ask for a kiss he will put his cheek next to my mouth so I can give him a kiss, but only twice in his life has he ever actually given me a kiss himself, and that was just in the last two months, and they were very spontaneous. More and more, though, he randomly shows some affection to Justin and I and Brighton and Adaira, which is so much fun to watch and experience from our little sweetie!



Love you Dale! You can suck those cute little fingers all you want!

Daisy's baptism day

Today Daisy was baptized by her big brother Brighton. My mom and Adaira got to be the witnesses, grandma Joanna gave the talk on the Holy Ghost, and Dale gave the closing prayer (after Dad has to rush during the closing song to help him put back on his tie and button up his shirt. Brighton was the pianist except for Adaira who played "When I am Baptized" for a special musical number.   Memorial Day A couple months ago I told Justin that we should take our kids and both sets of grandparents to the Mesa City Cemetery and tell our kids stories about our family members buried there. I thought it would make a good Sunday or Family Home Evening activity.  I want my children to identify with their ancestors and feel like they can learn from them. I especially want them to feel like they can develop some of the same good qualities or avoid some of the poor ones. They had also never been to a cemetery so it would be a new experience for them. Justin and I never got around to organizing it until today. Justin's mom was planning a lunch BBQ and swimming for Memorial Day and told me she was thinking of inviting my parents and asked about time preferences since she was thinking of doing it around dinner time.
