The Big Announcement

So yesterday we finally announced (admitted in some cases) that we are expecting baby number four. I have always wanted to try and wait until we find out the sex of the baby before I announced, because it seems like such a downer and boring time announcing you are pregnant and then waiting forever to find out what the sex is. It always seemed like it would be so fun to announce both at the same time. Our plans didn't work out so well due to some fellow pregnant friends spilling news to people they shouldn't have, but the people who we most wanted to keep it from were Brighton and Adaira. They didn't have a clue that I had been pregnant for the last 16 weeks, though I did have to tell them several times "Mommy doesn't feel good, I need to just rest...." or fall asleep right on the couch surrounded by chaos in the middle of the day (which happened VERY often). I even fell asleep once and missed picking up Brighton from the bus stop by by about 10 minutes. Luckily I saw a text on my phone that my neighbor had him at her house, phew!

A few months ago I had this same gut, except it was just a gut. At least now I can enjoy that fact that it's a baby!

Anyway, I finally went to the doctor two weeks ago and they scheduled me for an ultrasound for yesterday. We decided that we would just let the kids figure out what was going on themselves. We picked Brighton up early from school and said that Mom had a doctor's appointment since she hadn't been feeling well lately. I told them that the doctor was going to look in my tummy to see what was going on. We took video of the entire thing, so it's a little lengthy (just over 6 minutes) but it's entertaining.

Watch out for these 'quotable quotes' from Brighton during the ultrasound:

"I just looks like some kind of lobster thing moving"
"It looks like a rock...oh wait now it looks like and ear.... Now it looks like some kind of old lady with long hair that’s a witch with a super long nose"
"Yeah but what is that thing in the first place?"
"Is it some sort of bacteria?"
"I hope it's not a sickness that will make you die..."

After finding out what is going on, he says
"But why would you want more work?"

and finally, the most shocking quote of them all, at the end of the video, 6 minute mark (see this post if you want some background on this subject), he says to Dad:
"Why did you stick your private part into her private....Why did you do that?"

He's now embarrassed because we've gotten so many laughs out of that part of the video and he's demanding that I edit that part out. Not a chance buddy, that's classic!

Justin didn't take any stills from the ultrasound, so here are a few I captured from the video (for when I scrapbook all this in our 2011 family journal)

First we have looks of confusion and concern...

In the frame below Brighton is saying "What is that?!"

Then we have the announcement that it's actually a baby...

Adaira was thrilled! Brighton pointing at Dad asking him why we didn't tell him!

Brighton reads "GIRL" on the monitor...

Our first glimpses of our baby girl:
Below is her face right in the middle of the screen

The best news I've heard all year below!

I really wanted to have a girl this time around to give Adaira a sister. Not having any sisters myself, I've realized since becoming an adult how much I miss out on, seeing the help and support my friends and sister in laws get from their sisters and the close relationships that they have. I really wanted that for Adaira, and now she will get it! This is also very likely to be our last addition to the family, so I didn't want to have to go for #5 in hopes of getting her that sister. After this we are done and complete unless God demands otherwise!

I totally wanted to wait that long, but Jack was the impatient one! That video is awesome and I am so glad that you are having a girl!!! YEah! Two girls and two boys--perfect. And having the kids come like that looks so fun that it makes me want to to have another one--in about 12 years!:)

Yeah!!!! Congrats! Sorry you've been feeling yucky but hopefully the worst is over. I totally understand about wanting a girl so that A can have a sister. If I have my way, our next will be a boy so Jack won't always be outnumbered.
