Brighton Turns 8!

Brighton turned 8 on March 9th. Do I really have an 8 year old? Jeesh! His birthday was on a Friday and we had his party the next day on Saturday. He had a party at our house with five of his friends.

I made his cake after seeing it on Pinterest. It was so easy to make! Unfortunately I was one Kit Kat bar short (I thought 8 bars would do the trick, but it didn't) so the Kit Kats on the sides are spaced a little more than they were supposed to be. It didn't matter though, the boys couldn't have been happier to not only get cake and ice cream on their plates, but also Kit Kats and M&Ms!

We wanted to have all the boys eating outside, but the breeze kept putting out our candles.
We moved inside for the song and candle blowout, then moved back outside...
After having cake and ice cream at our house, we (okay Justin) took the (now WIRED!) boys to Jumpstreet, an indoor trampoline park.
After burning off all their energy, they came home and Brighton opened his presents. He got a squirt gun, nano-bot bug thing, legos, remote-controlled ATV,  a remote controlled helicopter (from Grandma & Grandpa Ellsworth), and a baseball bat and Wii game from us.

 He was a happy boy!
It's hard for me to describe how I feel about my firstborn. He made me a mother! He has always had the most tender heart. When he sensed my sorrows long ago when I was going through the hardest trials of my life, he started telling me he loved me about a dozen times a day. He continued to tell me he loved me all the time up until about two years ago. Now I just get it at night and when he tells me goodbye, which I'm still happy with.

I am so proud of Brighton. He is the sweetest big brother to Dale & Daisy. Dale LOVES to wrestle and play rough with Brighton and Brighton rarely gets mad at Dale when he comes out of nowhere and pile drives into him. He's a little too intelligent for his own good, but I think I'd rather have that than have to worry about his ability to learn. Brighton is a bookworm with a capital B! He's on the 6th Harry Potter book now, and reads all sorts of other books simultaneously. He told me he thinks he might want to be some sort of scientist some day. I think whatever he does, he will be great!

Right now Brighton's favorite things to do are read, ride the quad, play the Wii, and he is also enjoying baseball. We had a rough start with baseball because Brighton didn't know how to catch or throw and he took a few hits in the face when learning, but as he has improved ever so slightly, his confidence and enjoyment of the game have improved as well. It has been fun for me to be able to take him out in the back yard and practice with him. I have good memories of playing ball in my own back yard growing up, and occasionally as adults my family will still pull out the gloves, bats and balls at my parents house and hit to each other in the backyard.

He is also excited for his baptism on the 17th. We are happy that Brighton has a testimony of our Heavenly Father and his son, Jesus Christ, and has a desire to be baptized into His church. He is such a pensive boy, and really does give a lot of thought toward spiritual things.

Brighton will always have a very special place in my heart and I know he is destined for greatness!

In other news, how cute are these two kids?!
Daisy loves her walker and Dale loves piggyback rides!

Having a laugh at the expense of a squishy baby forehead...

Just started rice cereal a couple days ago! As you can see I got impatient with the spoon and found the syringe to be so much easier and less mess! It's so time consuming that I'm not really looking forward to it, so we are just having it once a day for now...
Before I forget to mention it, Dale & Daisy both had well visits yesterday. Daisy is 15lbs 3oz (72nd percentile) and 26.6in tall (97th percentile). Dale is 34.6lbs (90th percentile) and 40in tall (99.66th percentile!). He's tall enough to take to Disneyland to go on the rides but still young enough to get in free. We may just have to plan a trip before his birthday!
 She likes it!

I feel awful that I don't have any recent pictures of Adaira for this post (other than her being in the background of Brighton's pictures). I will get some of her in the next week. She is doing great too and is enjoying playing T-ball this year. She has a lot of natural hand-eye coordination so I think she'll be a great athlete!
The last present Brighton got for his birthday was a trip up to Seligman to spend a few days with Grandma & Grandpa Owens! He and Adaira have both been gone since Saturday the 10th and will be coming home tomorrow night. They are having a fabulous time and it has been a nice and restful break for me as well. I'm sure they are creating great memories!

What a cool mom you are to make a cake like that! And I love that it's not just a pretty cake that it has the duel purpose of being loved by the kids too!
A trampoline place? Cool!
Looks like Brighton got some sweet gifts!
