Kinder Springs Marathon Post

Kinder Springs was pretty much the happiest place on earth for me as a kid. I really think the time spent there getting dirty and being forced to make up my own activities really helped shape who I am today. I think Kinder Springs is the reason I don't put priority (or much importance at all) in having my hair/nails/toes in tip top shape, or why I don't seek out the latest fashions when they arrive. I think the two weeks of Kinder Springs every summer helped shape me to have a desire to be more of a country girl, and I couldn't be more glad that I am. Here's to hoping it can rub off on my own kids! It was a short 3 day trip this year, unfortunately, but with Dale's refusal to nap and his clinginess, plus the freezing nights and worrying about Dale being warm enough, I wasn't too sad to pack up. This was the first time we actually only used a primitive bathroom (A hole in the ground between some trees with a tarp wrapped only halfway around because that was as far as it would reach...) as well. Can't say I enjoyed that! I can't wait for a few years when hopefully we have a small trailer and I'm not camping with toddlers or babies!

This is a good start, look at that dirty face with the great big smile on it! That's what I'm talking about! This is Adaira's cousin, Ashlyn. They had a ball playing together on our campout.

We got all the cousins together and we all went to hike behind the dam at Blue Ridge Reservoir again this year.

Dale still loves the backpack. It was great for our ATV rides too (probably not the safest, but we weren't going fast at all. I doubt we ever topped 20mph)

Way to smile for the family picture Brighton...

This is Adaira coming up to me to tattle on Brighton...
This is Adaira trying to push Brighton away because he was trying to get in on the picture I was taking of her...

Pushing him away, don't mess with this tough girl!
She can handle him even from behind...
The good 'ol tire swing! Hours of fun for the kids, hours of hassle for the adults roped into pushing them...

Could Dale look any cuter in these overalls? I think not!

Nice how my bug-eyed sunglasses do a great job of hiding my nasty camping face, this is a pretty decent picture of me!
I definitely have Justin to thank for my beautiful blue-eyed children.
Dale & Daddy. Dale's at a good stage right now where he's content to have us hold his hand rather than carry him everywhere.
This kid is too adorable. I love his little face here. It's like he's got this little squint in his eyes questioning me if I'm really as cool as I think I am.

On the quads for our family ride to Jones Crossing. I've definitely hit the FAT stage of pregnancy...
Brighton was all about posing for his pictures this trip
At the bottom of Jones Crossing we found a few stream puddles to explore. They had lots of tadpoles and bugs, but little else. Brighton and Adaira were sizing up the wall of the wash to see if they could climb it. They tried but we had them stop because they were getting the black dirt all over themselves!

Adaira picked out these sunglasses herself...

The kids had a great time! One day a few years from now we will have a trailer and no babies and our kids will have a lot more time to make their camping memories!

How fun! We're so jealous to miss the family camping experience. Just a couple more years out here...
You know, Kalvin still talks about Brighton frequently. I forget if you have Skype or a webcam. Kalvin would love to see Brighton, even if we can only do it if you go over to your parents house to use your mom's laptop. Kalvin's Birthday is in July and every time his birthday comes up he tells me he wants Brighton to come, but then he also tells me that he lives in Arizona and so he can't. I know he really looks up to Brighton.

Looks like you had a great time! I will need to get some hiking and camping tips from you... we want to spend a lot of time exploring when we get to UT!
