♫ Daisy Daisy, give me your answer do. I'm half crazy all for the love of you! ♫
I had already scheduled with my OBGYN to be induced on Sunday the 6th. They assured me it would be an "inpatient" induction rather than "outpatient" - where I could be sent home if they couldn't put me into labor. I was pretty upset to get to the hospital and have the nurse tell me that I was scheduled for an outpatient induction and they were going to start me with the three rounds of ripening gels. We tried the gels with Dale and they didn't do a thing for me, plus they take a good 6 hours to go through. I did NOT want to sit in the hospital for 6 hours wasting time with those and then get sent home! Luckily shortly after the nurse did the first round of gel, the doctor showed up and told the nurse that I was actually an inpatient induction and said she would be willing to see if she could break my water after the first round of gel was done. Woo Hoo! Of course nothing happened after the first round so when I came back from my 45 minutes of walking to try and induce labor she broke my water. It was 12:06pm. Regular contractions started nearly immediately and by 1pm they were getting uncomfortable, so to be proactive I told the nurse that we should get the epidural going since I knew it would take a few minutes to get the anesthesiologist there and to get everything set up. The nurse said she had seen him in the hospital earlier so she knew he was there, but when she tried to call him he was nowhere to be found. She wasn't worried so she said she would try again in 10 minutes. When she tried again she still couldn't reach him, so she thought maybe he was in the doctor's lounge and asked someone at the hospital to see if they could reach him there. By around 1:30pm I was in a lot of pain and progressing fast. The nurse finally was able to reach the anesthesiologist on his personal cell and he told her he would be there in 15 minutes. 15 MINUTES?! I was dying already... About 5 minutes later the nurse checked my dilation and said I was 6cm but 100% effaced ("paper thin" in her words). That didn't seem possible since I've never had an epidural before 7cm and I swore I was in a whole lot more pain than I had ever been in. When the 15 minute mark hit, the nurse asked if I wanted some IV medication for the pain. I didn't want any if the epidural was on it's way, so she called him again and he said to sit me over the bed and he was on his way up. Five minutes later he arrived (at 1:50pm) and I was in heavy labor, further than I have ever reached without the epidural (and I was 9cm before getting it with Brighton). I have never been to the point where I have felt the uncontrollable urge to push during a contraction, it was HORRIBLE! While he was putting in my epidural the nurse could somehow tell that I was pushing and told someone to go get the doctor because this baby was coming. I vaguely remember the doctor coming in and them getting the bed prepped, but mostly I just remember fear of the pain of the next contraction once the current one subsided. Once the epidural was in they laid me down and checked me again and sure enough I was 10cm and ready to go. They had me lay on my side for about 2 minutes because the epidural was only working on the right side. Marisa and Brighton and Adaira walked in at 2pm after the epidural was finished (they would only let Justin in there for that). I think they barely had a chance to sit down when the nurses had me put my feet up and scoot down and said "Okay here comes another contraction, take a deep breath and push". I started laughing/crying because I wasn't even numb yet and the contraction, though not as painful, still hurt and they were already telling me to push! I wasn't numb and I wasn't even in a position that I wanted to be in....so I missed that contraction, but on the next one I pushed her half way out, and by the next one she was out!
Daisy Grace Ellsworth Owens was born at 2:12pm on November 6, 2011.
It all happened so fast that I just started bawling when she was handed to me. In the past I've always had a good 20 minutes or more to relax after having the epidural and the actual delivery was much more calm. This just all occurred so quickly and she was here so suddenly, it was overwhelming.
Justin looks so caring in the above picture....it's nice
I'm so lucky to have friends and family around that are so good with their cameras. Marisa was there to snap all of these shots for us and I am so grateful for her. As crazy as everything was I don't think Justin would've been able to capture it all nearly as well. We'd have been lucky to have 5 good shots at best! (I think 5 good shots is generous. JO)
I can read Adaira's lips below "She's so cuuuute!"
Adaira couldn't keep her eyes off Daisy as soon as she arrived. She followed her to the warming table and was so thrilled when Daisy clasped onto Adaira's finger and held it. Adaira stood there marveling at how Daisy was holding her finger. When the nurse took Daisy to the sink to wash her head, Adaira walked along with her finger still in Daisy's hand. They walked back to the warming station, and then over to where I was to give her to me again, all while Adaira's finger was still in Daisy's hand.
As soon as the excitement ended Brighton returned to his book.
She's our biggest one! She beat Adaira by .5oz!
If I could put a caption below for Brighton it would say "Yep, she's a girl"
Cute little feet!
Adaira and Daisy holding hands...
This might be the first time they were able to touch her, I'm not quite sure...
Daddy's big hand over her tiny foot, I love it!
Debriefing after operation Daisy; Fast and Furious...
The whole family minus Dale, who wasn't old (calm. JO) enough to be invited
Adaira is just a little mommy. I could tell immediately that I was going to have to keep her from smothering Daisy when we brought her home...
Welcome to the family sweetheart! We are so thrilled to have you here safe and sound!

I love that you were able to get such great shots just following the birth with your family and that you didn't have to worry about getting the camera out because Marisa was right there. Makes me want to have someone there with a camera as well.
I LOVE that Adaira and Brighton were there as well. So neat that they were able to be apart of it.
Can't wait to see you!
